MDSA is an architectural practice in New York City with a diverse portfolio, having completed a wide range of K-12 and higher ed, civic, healthcare, and commercial buildings for public and private clients.
We are seeking a full-time Technical Field Representative for several construction projects related to public schools in NYC. The position requires daily construction site visits to monitor construction progress. Candidate must be interested and experienced in all aspects of construction phase activities. Architects are preferable however, Engineers with good architectural sensibilities and the ability to address construction issues of all trades are welcome. Familiarity with Primavera CM13 Project Management software or similar systems (i.e., E-builder) is a plus. Excellent communication skills are required. All work is site-based working from field offices. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 12 years’ experience in the design and/or construction of commercial/institutional buildings.
Responsibilities include:
a) Perform site observations of the progress and quality of work and observe tests to ensure conformance with the Contract Documents. Notify the MDSA project team and client of non-conformances.
b) Assist the project team in responding to RFI.
c) Attend and participate in site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
d) Maintain digital records in an orderly manner including correspondences, Contract Documents, Change Orders, Construction Change Directives, reports of site meetings, Shop Drawings, Product Data, and similar submittals.
e) Maintain a logbook of activities at the site, including weather conditions, nature and location of work performed, verbal instructions and interpretations given to the Contractor, and specific observations. Record any occurrence or work that might result in a claim for a change in Contractor’s sum or time.
f) Notify the client if any portion of the work requiring Shop Drawings, Product Data or Samples has commenced before such submittals have been approved. Receive and log Samples required at the site and arrange for their examination recording the Consultant’s approval or other action.
g) Observe the Contractor’s Project Record Documents at intervals appropriate to the state of construction and notify the client of any apparent failure by the Contractor to maintain up-to-date records.
h) Observe the startup of major systems and confirm in writing the proper operation of said systems.
i) Develop, issue and close punch lists and assist with project closeout.
