About You

We are looking for a forward-thinking Generalist Consultant, who has a proven track record working across all domains of public health. An established leader with drive and highly developed public health skills to help shape decisions over a range of public health functions, operating and influencing across the system to achieve a significant impact for improving health and wellbeing of the Wiltshire population.

As Health Protection lead, you will be responsible (on behalf of the Director of Public Health) for the local authority public health role in support of multi-agency response to acute health protection situations e.g. communicable disease outbreaks. You will be a key leader in the local health protection system, ensuring collaborative and coherent working takes place between the public health team and key health protection partners including UKHSA, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB and NHS England. You will seek assurance of the local uptake, quality and performance of national and regional vaccine and screening programmes, and work with provider organisations to protect the health and wellbeing of the Wiltshire population.

As Sexual Health lead, you will be the lead commissioner and budget holder for the mandated provision of community sexual health services. This will require contract and budget management to ensure services meet the needs of the local population. You will provide strategic oversight and be the topic lead for this agenda, working collaboratively at system and regional level with other local authorities and key stakeholders, and lead on the local implementation of national strategy e.g. Women’s Heath Strategy.

You will provide leadership and direction to a team of practitioners and specialists, with support from a public health principal.

As a member of the senior management team you will help to lead public health and support the Director of Public Health in realising the ambition to ensure that public health is well placed to support the wider system for improved services and efficiencies.

You will work in partnership with senior managers from across the Council, with the Integrated Care Board and our three acute trusts, the voluntary sector as well as other partner agencies to improve health outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of people in Wiltshire.
